There are 5 dulangs - ring and bunga rampai, beaded fabric, cake, fruits and sirih junjung. So here goes, enjoy the piccies. It is still hot!

wedding hantaran
Wedding hantaran is a custom in malay tradition. A hantaran is basically exchanging the bride and groom exchanging gifts from each other. During those days, the hantarans would be sirih(be it sirih junjung or tepak sirih, more on it later), some home made sweets, a change of clothes, rings and bunga rampai (our local version of potpourri made from pandan leaves) and the mas kahwin and duit hantaran(dowry given to brides parents to finance the reception). Nowadays, the hantaran is slightly 'modernized', though we never forget the sirih, rings and sometimes bunga rampai. The rest is entirely up to the couple. I, personally, would prefer the hantaran to be something that is cherished by the couple, lets just say the couple are gadget-savvy, things like the latest pda or mobile phone or whatever gadget that i-don't-know-why-the-heck-you-need-it-for, are probably very personal and dear to them. Sweets are now normally replaced by the expensive and oh-so-yummy Patchi chocolates or beautiful fondant cakes. Another favourite item for hantaran at the moment are toiletries, perfume and cosmetics. I guess this proves that we all want our partner to be well-groomed ey? Ooh and as a girl, how could you not want shoes and handbags? I myself would prefer if the bags and shoes for hantaran are dinner bag and shoes. Why? First, the beading and material would look good on the dulang hantaran without excessive decorations. Second, you don't use them everyday. Somehow it gives you a chance to take care of it properly. It is after all something from your wedding. You DO want to keep it till death do you part, rite? Let's not forget the ring. Sometimes the groom prefers watch instead of a ring. Maybe it is more practical? Call me traditional, but I still want my groom to have his wedding ring. Usually whatever amount of gifts the groom present to the bride, the bride must trade with an extra of two more gifts.
I myself has been given the honor to decorate my bestfriend's-then-boyfriend's dulang hantaran for their enggagement. It was a pleasure and i really enjoyed myself. I then decided this wedding thing might be a good idea for a business! So here i am after 4 sets of hantarans, still striving for more. Have a look, get inspired, enjoy and if you acquire my services, do ring me!
